Here are some basic tips and tricks, for using a computer for the first time:
Press the power button: A computer has a power button typically located on the front or top of the device. When you’re ready to turn on the computer, simply press the power button and it should start up.
Wait for the computer to “boot up” and get the software ready. It may take a few minutes.
Log in with your username and password if necessary.
Connect to the Wi-Fi: To connect to the Wi-Fi, look for the Wi-Fi symbol in the bottom righthand corner of your screen. Once you click on the symbol, you will be shown a list of networks that you can choose from. How do I know which network to choose? It is important to check that the network is secure, so look for networks that you have permission to use. Once you have identified the desired network, enter the required password (if applicable) to connect to the internet.
Learn the keyboard shortcuts: Keyboards on computers are able to use combinations of keys to trigger useful things to happen. For example, the “Ctrl” + “C/X/V” keys are used for copy, cut, and pasting text into documents.
Familiarize yourself with the computer settings: Your computer settings are a great way to customize your experience and optimize performance. Depending on your computer, you may be able to access the settings by clicking on the “Start” button or searching for the “Settings” tab. You can change everything from the sounds the computer makes when it shuts down to the picture on the background of the screen.
